I inspect roofs. I don't sell them. That's the whole business.

Roof Doctor NM founder James — independent New Mexico roof inspector, 20+ years experience
Independent
Why I started Roof Doctor NM

I got tired of watching neighbors buy roofs they didn't need.

About the inspector

James — The Roof Doctor · Founder & Lead Inspector

20+ years in New Mexico roofing — former Operations Manager, Sales Manager, and General Manager at $10–25M/yr NM roofing companies. HAAG Certified · FAA Part 107 · IR Level I. Independent since 2026.

Husband of 20 years. Dad of 5. NM roofer since day one.

Every "free" roof inspection in New Mexico is a sales call in a ladder. Even the honest reps work for companies that need installations to happen. I spent years inside that machine before I built the company I wished my parents had called: no installs, no sales pressure, no bid I'm writing to win.

I charge $149 for the inspection whether your roof needs a $500 patch or a $30k tear-off. That's the fix. My only job is to be right about the condition — and to write a scope so tight that any NM contractor bidding against it has to bid apples-to-apples.

Credentials: 20+ yrs NM roofing · HAAG Certified · IR Level I · FAA Part 107. Insurance confirmed at booking. Not a licensed contractor — on purpose.

Meet the Roof Doctor

A little illustrated fun — same inspector, same pledge.

The real James is right above — glasses, calm demeanor, twenty years of Albuquerque roofs under his belt. This one's just for fun: same inspector, hand-drawn, holding the same clipboard he'll bring to your house.

You'll see this character around the site and on the truck. It's not identity proof — the headshot, license numbers, and insurance certificate are. Think of him as the friendly reminder that a roof inspection shouldn't feel like a sales ambush.

Life outside the ladder

Married 20 years. Five kids. One roof over all of us.

I met my wife young and we've built a life together in the Rio Grande valley for two decades. She's the reason this business is called Roof Doctor and not something aggressive — she kept telling me people needed a diagnosis, not a sales pitch.

Raising five kids under one Albuquerque roof means I've lived every failure mode firsthand: the monsoon leak that appeared over the crib at 2 a.m., the winter ice-dam that soaked the kitchen ceiling, the summer heat pushing through underlayment into a nursery. Roof integrity isn't a slide in a pitch deck for me — it's why my kids sleep dry.

That's why I refuse to run a high-pressure sales operation. I want to be home for dinner, not closing a re-roof at 9 p.m. A $149 fixed report means I can walk away from the ones I shouldn't sell — and tell you honestly when yours doesn't need to be replaced.

If you're a family deciding whether to spend $8k or $28k on your roof, I want you talking to another dad who's had those exact conversations at his own kitchen table — not a commissioned closer who needs the deal.

Signed, in writing

My personal pledge to every homeowner.

  • I will personally walk your roof — no junior tech, no closer, no sub.
  • I will deliver a written 20-page PDF report within 48 hours of the inspection.
  • I will disclose any contractor referral arrangement before it is offered to you.
  • I will show you photos of what's there, not what I want you to buy.
  • If your roof is fine, I will write that in the report and take the fee anyway.
  • If a contractor bids something outside the scope I wrote, I'll tell you before you sign.
Independent — by design

No GB-2 contractor license, on purpose. Holding one would tempt me to steer findings toward work I could bid on.

The report is the product

20-page PDF, 27 checkpoints, drone + IR + moisture data. Yours to share, sue with, or ignore.

Vetted NM contractors

If work is needed, I hand you 3 pre-vetted NM bidders matched to your scope, budget, and warranty needs.

Independence policy

Roof Doctor NM is an independent third party. We do not sell, install, or repair roofs — diagnosis comes first. When a matched bench contractor is hired, they may pay a flat, disclosed referral fee. The fee is fixed and disclosed to you in writing before you pick a contractor, so it cannot change what we recommend. Homeowner inspection fees remain our primary revenue.
