Standing-seam metal on a Placitas desert ranch
Custom desert ranch on an exposed ridge — 60+ mph sustained winds in spring and severe UV. Previous architectural shingles had failed in 11 years. Multiple roof penetrations for solar and skylights.
What we walked into.
Custom desert ranch on an exposed ridge — 60+ mph sustained winds in spring and severe UV. Previous architectural shingles had failed in 11 years. Multiple roof penetrations for solar and skylights.
- Shingles lifted on ridge and rake edges
- Multiple failed flashings around penetrations
- Attic temps over 150°F
How we worked it.
- 1Custom-fabricated panel lengths on-site to minimize seams (longest run: 38 ft).
- 2Oriented snap-lock seams to face away from prevailing southwest wind.
- 3Installed high-temp ice & water shield over entire deck before panels.
- 4Custom curb-mounted flashings for all 6 solar standoffs and 3 skylights, all flashed to last as long as the metal.
Where it landed.
Two winters of Placitas wind events with zero panel movement, zero leaks. Metal carries a 50-year finish warranty and 40-year substrate warranty. Reflective bronze finish dropped attic temps 28°F at peak.
- 24-ga standing seam, 50-year finish
- Concealed clip system for wind tolerance
- Custom solar-ready flashings
"We're 15 years from retirement and didn't want to think about a roof again. Roof Doctor NM specified the panels so the snap-locks point downwind — has held through two winters of 60mph gusts."
