Roof Doctor NM
Contracted bench · re-verified quarterly · NM only

What I verify before a NM roofer earns a spot.

12 checks, four categories, re-run every quarter. Meeting the bar isn't a recommendation to hire — it's the minimum before I'll send them your scope. 15+ contractors currently pass.

Group 1

License & legal standing

Active NM CID license (GB-2, GB-98, or MM-3)

Re-verified this quarter via NM RLD database. Screenshot on file.

License name matches business name on estimates

No 'DBA gymnastics' or expired-entity paperwork.

3+ years operating under the same entity

New LLCs get one storm season before I add them.

Zero NM Attorney General complaints in past 3 yrs

Public consumer-protection complaint search.

Zero unresolved BBB complaints in past 3 yrs

Unresolved — closed complaints don't count against them.

Group 2

Insurance & bonding

Active workers-comp policy on file with NM WCA

If a crew member falls on your property without WC, your homeowners policy is exposed.

$1M+ general liability certificate (COI current)

Listing you as certificate holder on request.

Surety bond on file where required by license class

GB-98 and MM-3 classes have specific bond requirements.

Group 3

Warranty & manufacturer standing

Manufacturer-certified installer (at least one system)

GAF Master Elite, CertainTeed SELECT, IKO ROOFPRO, or equivalent. Verified with the manufacturer, not just claimed on the truck.

Written workmanship warranty ≥ 5 years

5 for small crews, 10 for mid, 25 for premium replacements.

Group 4

Financial hygiene

Deposit ≤ 33% (or $0 down with financing)

50% deposits are a cash-flow smell. Under 33% is the industry norm.

Never requires AOB (Assignment of Benefits)

AOB signs your insurance claim over to the contractor. Automatic disqualifier.

Independence

Automatic disqualifiers.

The bar is the bar. We don't install roofs, so our only job is to make sure the contractor fits the scope.
Any AOB in the contract

Assignment-of-Benefits transfers your insurance rights to the contractor. Never OK.

Deposit over 33% (without financing)

Signals cash-flow trouble — your project pays for last month's job.

Door-knocking after a hail event without a truck-visible license

Storm-chaser tell. Legitimate crews carry proof.

Claims 'manufacturer certification' without a verifiable ID

Every real certification has a lookup. I check every one.

Refuses to give a certificate holder COI to the homeowner

You should be listed on their liability certificate for the job.

Next step

Ready when you are.

Three ways in. Pick the one that fits — no pressure.
