Storm Damage & Insurance Claims

We work for you. Not the insurance company.

After a hail or wind event, the adjuster has a budget and a deadline. You need someone on the roof with you who knows what a fair scope looks like. That's us.

Claim deadline matters

You have 12 months from the storm in NM.

Most New Mexico homeowner policies require you to file within one year of the storm event. Wait too long and the carrier can deny on timing alone — even with obvious damage. If you think a 2024 or 2025 hailstorm hit you, get an inspection on the calendar this month.

How a claim actually goes.

1. Free post-storm inspection

We photograph and video every slope, flag impact marks, soft spots, lifted shingles, and granule loss. You get the full report — claim or no claim.

2. Adjuster meeting on the roof

We meet your insurance adjuster on-site, walk the damage together, and provide a Xactimate-style scope so nothing legitimate gets missed or undervalued.

3. Honest rebuild — no deductible games

We do the work to code, file supplements if hidden damage shows up at tear-off, and you pay your deductible to your insurer. Eating the deductible is illegal in NM — we won't do it.

Damage checklist

Six signs your roof took a hit.

Walk your property after every major storm. Two or more of these and you should ask about a free inspection.

Granules in gutters

Black sandy piles at downspout splash blocks mean shingles are losing their UV armor.

Round bruises on shingles

Soft, dark spots about the size of a dime or quarter — classic hail signature.

Lifted or missing shingles

Even one missing tab can let monsoon water reach the deck within hours.

Ceiling stains after rain

Brown rings on drywall or ceiling tiles. Don't paint over — find the source.

Cracked vent caps & skylights

Plastic accessories crack before shingles bruise — easy ground-level diagnostic.

Bent gutters or AC fins

If hail flattened those, the roof took the same impact.

What's covered

What insurance typically pays — and doesn't.

Every policy is different. This is the pattern we see on standard NM HO-3 policies.

Usually covered

  • Full or partial roof replacement when damage exceeds repair threshold
  • Matching siding, gutters, fascia damaged in same event
  • Code-upgrade items (ice & water shield, drip edge, ventilation to current code)
  • Interior water damage caused by storm-driven leaks
  • Detached structures (sheds, pergolas, carports) under most policies

Usually NOT covered

  • Pre-existing wear & tear unrelated to the storm
  • Cosmetic-only damage on policies with a cosmetic exclusion endorsement
  • Damage from sustained neglect (clogged drains causing ponding)
  • Anything you fix yourself before the adjuster sees it (always photograph first!)
