I keep this because homeowners kept asking me the same question — 'was my roof in that storm?' — and nobody had a straight answer in one place. NOAA reports, carrier CAT codes, and what I actually found on roofs afterward, in one table. Use it, quote it, link it.
Each row is a single dated event with a documented peak hail size or gust. The filing window is the one that matters — carriers count from the date of loss, not the date you noticed the ceiling stain.
| Date | Type | Peak measured | Cities affected | Event |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May 3, 2025 | Hail | 1.00" hail | Rio Rancho, Bernalillo, Corrales | Early-season hail hits Rio Rancho & Bernalillo Full 12-month window active. Document now, file within 6 months to avoid adjuster pushback on "pre-existing" language. |
| March 14, 2025 | Wind | 72 mph peak gust | Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Bernalillo, Corrales, Placitas | March wind event — 65 mph sustained across metro Wind claims accepted through March 2026 on most carriers. Don't confuse this with the June hail — file separately. |
| August 22, 2024 | Microburst | 78 mph gusts | Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Corrales | Monsoon microburst tears shingles across Westside NM wind claims generally allow 12 months. Document with dated photos immediately; wind damage patterns fade after the next storm. |
| June 15, 2024 | Hail | 1.75" hail | Albuquerque, Placitas, East Mountains | Golf-ball hail sweeps NE Heights & Foothills Most NM carriers allow 12 months from date of loss for hail claims. State Farm, USAA, and Allstate all opened CAT codes for this storm. |
| May 18, 2023 | Hail | 1.25" hail | Santa Fe | Santa Fe hail event — Eldorado & Las Campanas hardest hit 1-year filing window still open only for policies renewed after May 2023. Check with carrier before scheduling an adjuster. |
Counts are derived from the event log above — hail events and wind or microburst events tallied per city. Repeat exposure is the single strongest argument for inspecting before a roof is 15 years old.

NOAA Storm Prediction Center local storm reports for Bernalillo, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Valencia counties, plus the catastrophe codes carriers opened for each date.
An event only enters the log once I've been on at least one roof in the affected area and confirmed damage consistent with the reported peak size. Reports without on-roof confirmation stay out.
New events are added as they're confirmed. Filing-window notes are revised when a carrier changes its stance on a specific CAT code.

Realtors, insurance agents, property managers, HOA boards, and NM news desks: if you need a cut of this by ZIP or by carrier for a story or a client packet, ask and I'll pull it.

I document what's actually up there — in writing, with photos and code references — before anyone asks you to sign anything.
Three roofers wanted $32k after the June hailstorm. Roof Doctor NM walked the roof, took 84 photos, and said the hail was cosmetic. Saved me from a fraudulent claim.
Under contract on a Corrales house. The pre-purchase report caught two hidden layers the seller's disclosure missed. Got an $18k credit at closing.
Bid review flagged that the 'lifetime warranty' voided if we used the wrong underlayment — which the contractor had specced. Renegotiated the whole scope.
