Plan before you penetrate
Every rooftop hole reviewed. Before it's cut.
Solar, HVAC, swamp coolers, dishes, vents — each one is a warranty risk if it's flashed wrong or installed in the wrong sequence. Pick what's on (or going on) your roof; we'll flag the risks and sequence.
Why sequence matters
Solar-before-roof is the #1 mistake we un-do.
Solar array (10–30 panels)
Requires flashed rail feet at every rafter. Adds ~4 psf dead load — verify truss capacity. Must be installed AFTER roof, never before.
HVAC curb / split condenser
Curb needs 8-inch upstand, saddle flashing, and a cricket on the uphill side. Line-set penetrations are the #1 leak call we get.
Plumbing vent stack (3–4 in)
Use a lead or high-temp EPDM boot — not the plastic boots that crack in 5 years of NM UV. We replace every boot on every reroof.
